  45.     Orpheus is a writer-friendly hypertext authoring system, consisting of
  46.     two programs:  OH.EXE, the authoring program itself, and OHREAD.EXE, a

  66. CAPACITY AND LIMITATIONS:

  68.     Documents can contain up to 32,000 linked cards and graphics.  A text card
  69.     can hold up to 250 links to any combination of text cards and graphics.
  70.     There are 7 link types, of which one can be reserved for the author's
  71.     notes and excluded from the compiled version, while three others are
  72.     for script commands entered in the easy Orpheus Command Language.

  77.     Orpheus requires an IBM XT- or AT-compatible computer with DOS 3.1 or
  78.     later.  The authoring program requires a hard disk; the Orpheus Reader
  79.     does not.

  82. IS A MANUAL INCLUDED?

  84.     Yes.  The file MANUAL1.DOC provides an introduction to hypertext and a
  85.     series of step-by-step tutorials on how to make hypertext with Orpheus.
  86.     (Both programs include online help -- context-sensitive, with hypertext
  87.     links of course!  Help in the authoring program is an exhaustive resource
  88.     with nearly 250K of texts on every facet of the system.)  In addition
  89.     the file MANUAL2.DOC provides a complete guide to using the Orpheus
  90.     Command Language (for authors who wish to display graphics, launch
  91.     programs, play music, etc).

  94. SUPPORT:

  96.     Orpheus is supported on three levels, all of them free:  (1) voice
  97.     support over the telephone (11:30 am to 11:30 pm, Eastern Time);
  98.     (2) email support via Internet and GEnie, as well as the shareware
  99.     conferences of several public echomail networks; (3) two support BBS's
  100.     providing free updates.  See the README file for details.

  103. HOW TO START THE PROGRAM:

  105.     At the DOS prompt, "OH    [Enter]" starts up the authoring program; you
  106.     can also give the name of a file.  For example, to start up Orpheus
  107.     Author and simultaneously initiate a new project called "Test", you
  108.     would give the command "OH TEST      [Enter]".  See MANUAL1.DOC
  109.     (Chapter 1) for more information.

  111.     To start up the Orpheus Reader with the demo book "Introducing Orpheus",
  112.     give the command "OHREAD INTRO.HTX     [Enter]" at the DOS prompt.

  117.     Orpheus is distributed as shareware, with a registration fee of $49.
  118.     Registered users receive bonus utilities and an unlimited licence to sell,
  119.     give away, or otherwise distribute their compiled works together with the
  120.     Orpheus Reader.  Registration numbers are built right into compiled books
  121.     as the ultimate proof of copyright.  Site licensing is available to
  122.     companies requiring multiple copies of the authoring program.

  127.     For hypertext writers, for anyone wishing to create electronic books and
  128.     manuals, Orpheus is a dream come true.  The system is two programs:
  129.     Orpheus Author (OH.EXE), an Integrated Development Environment for
  130.     composing hypertext; and Orpheus Reader (OHREAD.EXE), a slick but easy-to-
  131.     use program for registered users to distribute with their finished works.
  132.     Both programs come with pulldown menus and online help, mouse support,
  133.     and configurable colors.

  135.     Orpheus Author gives you seamless integration between the act of writing
  136.     and the act of hypertext linking.  All features are accessible through
  137.     menus and dialogs, and most have keyboard accelerators.  There are no
  138.     special codes or brackets to insert; you can quickly develop a complex
  139.     hypertext network that is a joy to navigate and a pleasure to read.
  140.     Extensive word processing tools include reformatting, search and replace,
  141.     block operations including column mode and mouse-marking, a boxdraw mode
  142.     for making tables and boxes, everything you need to write well and make
  143.     text look great onscreen.  Hypertext tools let you refine and restructure
  144.     your hypertext network at will, letting it grow and change following the
  145.     flow of ideas -- safely and easily, with a couple of keystrokes or clicks
  146.     of the mouse.  With 4 independent Edit windows you can keep separate
  147.     "growing points" of your work close to hand (Orpheus saves your window
  148.     configuration when you end a session).  A fifth window provides read-only
  149.     access to other files for quickly importing external text.  Every Orpheus
  150.     book can hold up to 32,000 cards; each card can have up to 250 links to
  151.     any combination of text cards and graphics; graphics in turn can have
  152.     hotspots linked to other graphics or to text.  Finished works are compiled
  153.     into two or more compressed files for efficient distribution with the
  154.     Orpheus Reader.

  156.     The Orpheus Reader is the public's gateway to you and your work.  It
  157.     offers a user-friendly interface combined with the under-the-hood
  158.     sophistication to take full advantage of the user's hardware.  (Even if
  159.     you wrote your book in monochrome, users with color will get glorious
  160.     color; but if you used graphics that the reader's system can't display,
  161.     Orpheus handles this gracefully.)  Features on the menu include a notepad
  162.     with hypertext linking, a bookmark dialog where the user can enter
  163.     descriptive comments for up to 10 bookmarks, and printing.

  165.     The author of Orpheus provides support through GEnie and Internet
  166.     addresses, as well as the shareware conferences of several public echomail
  167.     networks.  A sample book included with the Reader (INTRO.HTX) demonstrates
